Lyrics

I turned on the tv Don’t tell me that’s wrong
I don’t do it that often I don’t do it for that long
But my stomach was empty and my cupboards were bare
So I watched Ginger Rogers dance around Fred Astaire

They were guests at a party They were dressed to the nines
The dancing was perfect The romance was divine
But I looked at his bow tie and his shiny black shoes
Then I looked in my cupboard and turned on the news

And I ain’t got no fancy shoes I ain’t got no bow tie
I don’t want what I can’t use and I can’t use no bow tie
I don’t want no fancy shoes Don’t need them to watch the news
And what I don’t have I can’t lose; can I?

So I went to buy groceries without Ginger or Fred
They had mayonnaise and Fruit Loops but no milk and no bread
Wasn’t looking to find new shoes Wasn’t shopping for ties
Just a bowl full of breakfast and a side of French fries

And I ain’t got no fancy shoes I ain’t got no bow tie
I don’t want what I can’t use and I can’t use no bow tie
I don’t want no fancy shoes Don’t need them to watch the news
And what I don’t have I can’t lose; can I?

Fred And Ginger can dance; Fred And Ginger can dance
Fred and Ginger can dance but they don’t eat much

And I ain’t got no fancy shoes I ain’t got no bow tie
I don’t want what I can’t use and I can’t use no bow tie
I don’t want no fancy shoes Don’t need them to watch the news
And what I don’t have I can’t lose; can I?
