From the recording Apricot Moon
Lindsay White invited a bunch of songwriters to contribute an unused song idea from our notebooks and they were each given to another writer to build a song around. I got this one, which I used as a story outline.
"The stage is a boat, the venue is a lake, the crowd are the fish and the music is the bait."
Rob Deez
Lyrics
Playing Music Tonight – I’m out on the highway
With an apricot moon - while the radio plays
At the edge of the world – at the end of the day
Music sets you drifting and you have to sail away
And my boat is this stage - rocking and rolling
Music and magic - keep it afloat
Toss a line in the water – cast note after note
I’ll keep singing ‘til I run out of bait or the fish climb into the boat
And you can sing along like nobody’s listening
Close your eyes and it’s like singing in the shower
You can feel it start – you’ve got the power
of every note that’s beating with your heart, and you can sing
And this room is a lake - You’ve been waiting for hours
And the surface is rippling - high over this crowd
Sharing music with strangers - somehow makes you feel proud
One song makes you happy; another has you crying out loud
And you can sing along like nobody’s listening
Close your eyes and it’s like singing in the shower
You can feel it start – you’ve got the power
of every note that’s beating with your heart, and you can sing
Playing Music Tonight – I’m out on the highway
With an apricot moon - while the radio plays
